A new study has confirmed a seemingly obvious fact: lying to your partner about financial stuff is BAD and can knock the bottom out of your happy relationship.
The survey conducted by the National Endowment for Financial Education found that one-third of the participants admitted to having lied to their partner about their personal or joint finances. 35% reported having been lied to by a loved one in the past. Almost half said lies about money have been the cause of arguments, and 33% said that the financial infidelity has led to a lack of trust in the relationship overall.
10% said it had resulted in divorce for them. Not surprising, a July 2013 study out of the KansasStateUniversity found that arguing about money is the top predictor of divorce, regardless of the couple's income, debt or net worth.
