Google will no longer accept ads for anything about cryptocurrencies. The ban will include initial coin offerings, wallets, and trading advice. The ban will take effect in June and is similar to the hard-line approach Facebook announced earlier this year.
The cryptocurrency boom, led by Bitcoin, has generated a lot of excitement and wealth. But it's mostly unregulated and has set off a huge number of scams. A Google official said the company has seen enough harm to consumers, with the potential for more damage, that it's decided to take an extremely cautious approach.
