Do You Name Your Car?

My father named his cars, but they all had the same name, Annabelle. Not sure why, be he'd say on a super cold day, like today, "I hope Annabelle's gonna start!" Now, I do have a name for my bicycle. He's "Brutus." Why a male and why Brutus? Well, he's my riding buddy 75% of the time and he is scarlet & gray. Some say silver and red, but not me. The Old Man named his car but he always tole me, "Never fall in love with a car, because it'll break your heart every time!"

A new survey finds that 60% of Americans consider their cars part of the family, with 56% saying they actually name their vehicles. As for how they pick those names, 42% name them after a prominent feature like the color or sound it makes, while 20% are inspired by movies, TV shows and songs, and 17% are inspired by famous cars or celebrities.

And like people are doing these days with baby names, many choose unique monikers for the four-wheeled member of their family. Some of the funniest names folks have given to their cars include:

  • The Bug Slayer
  • Earth Mover
  • Baby Sweet Lil’ Kayden
  • Cujo
  • Fancy Jenny
  • Grease Lightning
  • Uriah (Note: “because it was a heap”)
  • Kermit
  • Lil’ Speedz
  • Miss Tigglywinkle
  • Muscle boy
  • Autohoward
  • Optimus Punto
  • Professor Yaffle
  • Yoda
