Most People Aren't Ashamed Of Their Mental Health Struggles

These days it seems we hear a lot more people talking about their mental health struggles, and it appears that may be changing the stigma around it. In fact, a new poll conducted in recognition of mental health month finds that 87% of Americans feel people shouldn’t be ashamed of having a mental health disorder, while 86% believe those people can get better.

And it’s not like friends are going to abandon people with mental health issues. The poll finds that 81% of adults say they would be comfortable being friends with someone with a mental health disorder, while 79% would be comfortable interacting with them.

But not all the results are positive. Turns out only 51% of those surveyed say they’d be comfortable dating someone with mental health issues, and only 35% would be comfortable letting them care for their kids. What’s more, 33% of people say folks with mental health disorders “scare” them, while 39% would look at someone differently if they knew they had mental health issues.
