The Measles Outbreak Growing! Ask Your Doctor If a Booster Is Needed!

The measles outbreak keeps spreading.

The CDC says it's now up to 880 confirmed cases in 24 states. That's 41 new cases since last week. The 880 case total is the biggest since measles was declared eliminated in the U.S. in 2000. The outbreak is building toward the record of 963 cases in 1994.

The biggest concentration of cases is in New York where outbreaks continue in Brooklyn, Queens, and suburban Rockland County. The New York cases primarily involve people in Orthodox Jewish communities.

The latest state to feel the outbreak is Oklahoma, where a traveler who went overseas brought the disease back home.

Most of the people infected with measles across the country were not vaccinated. If you have been vaccinated, but it was decades ago, make sure you talk to your doctor about a booster shot.
