The Department of Veterans Affairs is considering softening their approach on medical marijuana for troops suffering from PTSD. While marijuana is limited under federal law, research has shown it might be helpful to veterans dealing with suicidal thoughts.
This research is convincing officials to open the conversation about medical marijuana's benefits. VA Secretary David Shulkin says everything that could potentially help veterans should be debated by Congress.
“Right now, federal law does not prevent us at VA to look at that as an option for veterans,” said Shulkin, who is a trained physician. “I believe that everything that could help veterans should be debated by Congress and by medical experts and we will implement that law."
