Justin Bieber took to the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (September 12) for a medley performance of “Stay,” alongside the track's co-star: The Kid LAROI., as well as his Justice track, "Ghost."

During the opening number of the show, which was introduced by the one and only Madonna, The Kid KAROI kicked off the uptempo number from atop a mountain prop, before the pop superstar appeared in a hoodie and overhauls to join the newcomer. With a live band in tow, the two jumped around on-stage in front of the audience pit, before Bieber became the center of attention with his solo performance of the Justice track.

This marked Bieber’s first performance at the annual show since he broke down in tears at the 2015 ceremony during his medley number of "Where Are Ü Now" and "What Do You Mean?" On a personal front, Bieber attended the show with his wife, Hailey Bieber, who served as one of many presenters during the ceremony. Bieber’s appearance at the show was a no-brainer as he score the most nominees in this year’s batch, including Artist of the Year.

Bieber and LAROI’s performance was just one of the many buzzworthy moments of the night during the Doja Cat-hosted ceremony, which took place in Brooklyn, New York, and included a performance roster of Kacey Musgraves, Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow, Twenty One Pilots and Olivia Rodrigo.
