Sheriff Investigating Fatal Crash on US Route 42

Deputies are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred at the intersection of US Route 42 and State Route 736 in Jerome Township. On Friday, January 24, 2020 at approximately 4:47 pm, the Union County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 emergency call reporting a two-vehicle crash with serious injuries. Deputies and units from the Jerome Township Fire Department and the Pleasant Valley Fire District responded to the scene and found a 2014 Toyota Tundra that was traveling southbound on US Route 42 had struck a 2008 Volkswagen Rabbit. The driver of the Volkswagen was transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital and a passenger in the Volkswagen was transported to Dublin Methodist Hospital. The passenger was later pronounced deceased. The deceased victim has been identified as Johanna R. Keiser, age 86 of Plain City. The preliminary investigation has determined the Volkswagen Rabbit turned in front of the Toyota Tundra and was struck broadside. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor and the crash remains under investigation. US Route 42 was closed for several hours while the crash was investigated and reopened at approximately 8:20 pm. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Union County Emergency Management Agency and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
