Troopers Investigating an Injury Crash Involving Marion City School Buses

Marion – Troopers from the Marion Post are investigating an injury crash that occurred on September 23, 2022, at approximately 2:43 PM on E. Center St. near the intersection of Merchant Ave. in the City of Marion, Marion County. 

The crash involved a 2006 Thomas Built school bus, driven by a Randy Potts, age 62, of Marion, Ohio, and a 2020 Blue Bird school bus, driven by a Kimberly J. Horvath, age 42, of Brook Park, Ohio. Both buses are owned by Marion City Schools and were traveling westbound on E. Center St.Ms. Horvath slowed for traffic.Mr. Potts failed to maintain assured clear distance ahead and his bus struck Ms. Horvath’s bus in the rear.

There were forty-nine high school students on board between the two buses. Seven of the students sustained suspected minor injuries. Six of them were transported to Marion General Hospital by Marion City and Marion Township EMS. One of them was cleared by EMS on scene.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Marion City Fire and EMS, Marion Township Fire and EMS, Marion City School District Staff and Ed’s 24 Hour Service.
