Check Out This Awesome Barber!

For kids with autism, getting a haircut can be an incredibly scary experience. The noises from people talking, the buzzing clippers, the bright lights and having to sit still in a chair can be overwhelming and terrifying. So hairdresser Kelly Muzio found a solution: doing haircuts outside on her farm, with animals to watch and a lot more quiet.

Muzio opened Hair on the Farm at her Fresno, California farm and made a barber’s chair out of a saddle on a bale of hay, where she cuts hair for kids with autism. “I’m not an expert on autism,” Muzio says, “but I know that they need something unique to make them feel safe.”

And her set-up is working for her clients. Parents like it because their kids aren’t screaming like they had in past hair salons and barbershops. Kids like it because they can check out the goats, chickens, and sheep and the haircut is a quick but exciting experience, in all the right ways.
