Are We Exercising Less Due to Online Shopping?

While online shopping has certainly made things easier for us when it comes to making purchases, it seems there are some major drawbacks to just clicking a few pages and having anything we need arrive at our front door. In fact, a new study suggests not going out to the store to buy things is making folks weak.

A UK study, which could easily translate here, suggests that because people are no longer carrying heavy bags home from shopping their muscles are getting weaker. The survey reports that at least 25% of people 65 and older are no longer doing things like shopping, gardening and vacuuming, all of which are great strengthening exercises.

Along the same lines, almost quarter of those surveyed say they don’t do any strength training exercises at all, while only 9% do them once a week. Such exercises are crucial to preventing falls and other age-related health problems.
