Want to encourage your kids to read more and choose new stories? It may be as simple as switching the way your books are displayed. It’s all about catching your little one’s eye and getting them interested.
Mom Sarah Mackenzie found that any books she displays on picture ledges in her daughter’s room always grab the girl’s attention and she wants to read them right away. While the bookcase in her kid’s bedroom does a fine job of storing the books, her little girl probably just doesn’t realize what exciting stories await her on the shelves because she can’t see the inviting covers.
So while kids love to reach for old favorites when choosing books, it’s hard to resist grabbing a new one when they’re presented cover-out. Think of it like the kiddo version of the “Trending Now” row on Netflix that draws you in. So change up your display from time to time without saying anything and see what happens. Your kid will probably love discovering and choosing those new books and you won’t have to re-read “If You Give A Pig A Pancake” for the ninth time this week.
