Sleeping In On The Weekend Is Bad For Your Health

Doctors are constantly recommending people get seven hours a sleep a night, and while a lot of people don’t, many at least get to make some of those hours up o the weekend. Well, it turns out, folks may want to think twice about getting those few extra hours of shuteye, because even though it that may feel great, apparently that extra sleep could slowly be killing you.

According to a new study, published in the online journal “Sleep,” getting in a few extra hours of sleep on the weekends, known as “social jetlag,” can lead to poorer health, bad moods and fatigue. And what’s worse, every extra hour of sleep over your normal sleep patterns could result in an 11% increase risk of heart disease.

Lead author Sierra B. Forbush notes, “This suggests that a regular sleep schedule may be an effective, relatively simple and inexpensive preventative treatment for heart disease as well as many other health problems.”
