The Evolution of Carrie Underwood

From the American Idol stage to touring the world, Carrie Underwood has become a superstar. She's won many Grammys (in addition to other awards and accolades), performed on stages across the globe, released seven albums — including her 2020 Christmas album, My Gift.

Fans have not only watched Carrie flourish in her career, but in her personal life as well. From getting married to her husband, hockey star Mike Fisher, to welcoming her children, Isaiah and Jacob into the world and the announcement of her new gospel project, My Savior, the 38-year-old has grown and changed so much. 

In honor of the star's birthday, take a walk through memory lane below. This is the evolution of Carrie Underwood.

1. March 2005:

At 22 years old, Carrie won American Idol

2. May 2005:

Shortly after winning American Idol, Carrie released her debut full-length album, Some Hearts.

3. Some Hearts was wildly successful for Carrie, skyrocketing her into superstardom. Her single "Jesus, Take the Wheel" topped the charts for the sixth straight week at this time, with the album also topping charts. Some Hearts became the fastest-selling debut country album.

4. May 2006:

In May 2006, Carrie took home two ACM Awards (out of three nominations) for Single Record of the Year (Jesus, Take The Wheel) and Top New Female Vocalist of the Year.

5. Towards the end of 2006, Carrie also won two CMA Awards; one for Female Vocalist of the Year and the Horizon Award.

6. December 2006:

The awards kept coming for Carrie. In December, she won every single Billboard Music Award that she was nominated for. Underwood took home the awards for Female Billboard 200 Album Artist of the Year, Country New Artist of the Year, Female Country Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Country Album of the Year.

7. February 2007:

In 2007, Carrie won her very first Grammy awards! The country star took home the awards for Best New Artist and Best Female Country Vocal Performance for "Jesus, Take the Wheel."

8. June 2007:

By June 2007, Carrie's debut album Some Hearts went six times Platinum.

9. November 2007:

The CMAs in 2007 were a big one for Carrie, as she won awards for Single of the Year ("Before He Cheats") and Female Vocalist of the Year, as well as performed during the show.

10. February 2008:

Another year, another Grammy. In 2008, Carrie won awards for Best Female Country Vocal Performance for "Before He Cheats" and Best Country Collaboration with Vocals for "Oh Love" with Brad Paisley

11. February 2009

The following year, Carrie took home yet another Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance for "Last Name," which is off of her Carnival Ride album.

12. April 2009Carrie won four CMA Awards in 2009, including Entertainer of the Year. She also won Female Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year for Carnival Ride, and Music Video of the Year for "Just A Dream."

13. May 2009

Returning to the scene of the crime, Carrie appeared on American Idol, the platform where she was featured during the Season 8 finale.

14. January 2010In 2010, Carrie walked the Grammys red carpet with her fiancé, hockey star Mike Fisher. The two began dating in late 2008, and got engaged a year later in December 2009.

15. March 2010

Carrie loves animals (except turtles) and supports adoption drives.

16. July 2010

In July 2010, Carrie and Mike got married! The two tied the knot at The Ritz-Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Georgia in front of over 250 friends and family.

17. April 2011

Carrie has accomplished a lot over the course of her career, but fans and fellow musicians get to see a different side of her when she hosts the CMAs. She's been hosting the annual awards show with Brad Paisley over the last 11 years.

18. September 2011

In 2011, the very first iHeartRadio Music Festival took place, and among the star-studded lineup that year was Carrie Underwood. The lineup also included Bruno Mars, JAY-Z, Kenny Chesney, Lady Gaga, and more. Carrie is also set to perform at this year's (2018) festival. 

19. November 2011

Carrie hosted the 45th annual CMA Awards, alongside Brad Paisley.

20. February 2012

Carrie was nominated for a Grammy for Best Country Solo Performance for "Mama's Song" off her album Play On.

21. May 2012

Carrie and Mike walked the red carpet at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards. Couples Goals.

22. October 2012

In 2012, Carrie Underwood hit the road on her "Blown Away" Tour in support of her fourth studio album Blown Away.

23. November 2012

In 2012, Carrie won an American Music Award for Favorite Country Album for Blown Away.

24. February 2013

"Blown Away," Carrie's album's title track, also won her a Grammy for Best Country Solo performance in 2013.

 25. September 2013

In 2013, Carrie performed at the Emmys during a special tribute segment.

Another year, another stunning CMA Awards look...

27. February 2014I

n 2014, Carrie was honored with the Country Radio Seminar (CRS) Artist Humanitarian Award.

28. March 2014

In March 2014, Carrie performed at the iHeartCountry Festival in Austin, Texas.

29. June 2014

Carrie Underwood performed her duet, "Somethin' Bad," with Miranda Lambert during the 2014 CMT Music Awards.

30. November 2014

During Labor Day weekend in 2014, Carrie revealed that she and Mike were expecting their first child together with a cute Instagram post. Then, during the CMA Awards a few months later, she revealed the gender of the baby while hosting the festivities with Brad Paisley. 

31. December 2014

Carrie showcased her growing baby bump on the red carpet of the American Country Countdown Awards, and then finally welcomed her son, Isaiah Michael, on February 27, 2015.

32. June 2015

Carrie performed during the 2015 CMT Music Awards, during which she also won several awards, including Video of the Year and Female Video of the Year for "Something In The Water."

33. November 2015

Dynamic duo Carrie and Brad hosted the CMA Awards once again in 2015. Her first since giving birth to her son.

34. November 2015

Carrie took home the 2015 American Music Award for Favorite Female Country Artist.

35. December 2015

Carrie helped ring in 2016 by performing during Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest.

36. February 2016

In 2016, Carrie was nominated for a Grammy for Best Country Solo Performance with her single "Little Toy Guns."

37. April 2016

Carrie took home the 2016 ACM Lifting Lives Gary Haber Award during the ACMs. She was also nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year.

38. April 2016

In 2016, Carrie returned to American Idol again to perform her song "Something In The Water."

39. June 2016

In 2016, Carrie won CMT Awards for Female Video of the Year and CMT Performance of the Year with her single "Smoke Break" from her fifth studio album, Storyteller.

40. November 2016

Carrie was glowing during the 50th Annual CMA Awards, which she hosted, as always, with Brad Paisley.

41. May 2017

Carrie joined Luke Bryan onstage to kick off the "Huntin' Fishin' And Lovin' Every Day" Tour in Nashville.

42. November 2017

Carrie and Brad were back once again to co-host the CMA Awards! 

43. May 2018

She promoted her CALIA By Carrie Underwood Mother's Day campaign in NYC.

44. June 2018

She received the Hero Award at the Radio Disney Music Awards.

45. September 2018

Carrie released her sixth studio album, Cry Pretty.

46. November 2019

The singer won the American Music Awards for Favorite Country Female Artist and Favorite Country Album. Underwood became the first and only artist in AMA history to have all six consecutive albums win the Favorite Country Album award.

47. March 2020

Underwood released her debut book, Find Your Path.

48. September 2020

Carrie won the Academy of Country Music Award for Entertainer of the Year, making her the most-awarded woman in that category.

49. December 2020

Carrie releases her first Christmas album, My Gift.

50. March 2021

On March 26, 2021, Underwood plans to release gospel cover album, My Savior.
