It's almost time for Buckeye Chuck Day!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 1/08/2024

Buckeye Chuck is set to poke his head out of his burrow in Marion, Ohio on Groundhog Day, Friday February 2, 2024, in a LIVE, in-person, event.

By proclamation of the State of Ohio in 1979, Buckeye Chuck is Ohio’s official weather prognosticating groundhog. This is his 44th year!

Chuck has been studying weather patterns, jet stream anomalies, computer models, and napping in order to procure Ohio’s most accurate springtime forecast. Buckeye Chuck is an animal ambassador residing at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History and is preparing to emerge from his personal den, behind the studios of WMRN Radio in Marion, to deliver Ohio's annual forecast. Not since the creation of the Doppler Radar has any weather-related event been talked about with such anticipation.  Legend says if Buckeye Chuck sees his shadow at sunrise, Ohioans will have to deal with 6 more weeks of winter, so we’ll be hoping for a cloudy morning on Friday, February 2nd.

Buckeye Chuck will be greeting his fans, and anyone interested, in a LIVE, in-person, celebration at The Studios of AM-1490 WMRN, 1330 N. Main Street in Marion, Ohio on Friday, February 2, 2024, from 7am to 8am. The event will also be LIVE on 1490-AM WMRN Radio, on the FREE iHeart app and on Buckeye Chuck’s Facebook Fan Page.

It’s an event that every Ohioan will NOT want to miss! At around 7:40 am, Buckeye Chuck will deliver his official forecast for the State of Ohio for the remainder of winter.

Spam has long been a part of the Buckeye Chuck Groundhog Day Celebration, as longtime Marion, Ohio First Lady, Sandra Kellogg, would stop by the event with her griddle and spatula to serve up Spam Sandwiches to the gathered crowd. Why? Because the gelatinous meat product is made with pork shoulder and ham, which is “Ground Hog.” Now, that tradition continues, as Buckeye Chuck fans are asked to submit a recipe that uses SPAM for a chance to win a $50 Visa gift card from Pillar Credit Union. Submit your fun, and delicious SPAM Recipe at WMRN.com website.

Buckeye Chuck is also asking you to support the St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry by bringing a donation of cash or non-perishable food, valued over $5, to Buckeye Chuck’s Groundhog Day Celebration and the first 100 visitors who donate, will receive a Hessler’s Screen Printing and More “I Heart Buckeye Chuck” T-Shirt, while supplies last!
