Nina Dobrev and Shaun White have split nearly one year after announcing their engagement.
A source close to the former couple confirmed to People that the Vampire Diaries star and the retired professional snowboarder have broken up after five years together, with the insider stating, "It was a mutual decision, and wasn't an easy one, but it was made with love and a deep respect for one another."
The outlet notes that the now-exes were last photographed together holding hands while running errands in Los Angeles on August 31, but Dobrev was seen without her engagement ring while walking the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7.
Dobrev and White have been linked since 2019 but first went public with their relationship while quarantining together during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020. They announced on October 30, 2024, that they had gotten engaged, each sharing posts on Instagram expressing excitement. The former Olympic athlete shared photos of himself on one knee popping the question to the Love Hard actress, while Dobrev cheekily captioned her own set of pics, "RIP boyfriend, hello fiancé."
White previously revealed to Vogue that he had attempted proposing to his longtime girlfriend twice before he actually asked her to marry him. His original plan to propose during their summer vacation was pushed aside, however, after Dobrev was injured in a dirt biking accident and required surgery and rehabilitation for a painful knee injury.
