What To Expect For A Wedding Gift

There’s no denying that some people love weddings, while others hate it, but regardless, most of us will suck it up, get all dressed up and help a happy couple celebrate their big day no matter how much we hate it. And if being forced to go to a wedding wasn’t bad enough, then you have to buy a gift, and deciding what to get them is never easy.

Well, a new survey by The Knot reveals that most people really don’t put too much effort into figuring out a gift. In fact, 37% of wedding guests simply go to the wedding registry for their gift choice, while another 29% will just give money in the form of check or cash. Other popular gift choices include gift cards (10%) and contributions to a couple’s honeymoon (7%).

Of course how much folks spend is a completely different story, and it seems that will depend on a variety of factors. In fact, 41% of people say they will go cheaper with the gift if they have to travel to a wedding, while 44% will spend the same amount regardless of whether they’re traveling or not. Of course how close you are to the couple is also a factor, with 79% saying they’ll spend more on a couple if they are very close to them.

But apparently whether you come alone or with a guest doesn’t really matter, with 66% of people spending the same amount regardless of whether they bring a plus one or not, although 24% will spend more if they were invited with an additional guest.
