800 million people are starving around the world.
That’s a huge number, so look at it this way…one in every nine people on Earth is experiencing chronic hunger.
That's according to a new report from the United Nations World Food Programme. It amounts to about 800 million people and its getting more expensive to keep people fed.
The report says that costs doubled between 2009 and 2016 to five-point-three billion dollars. Increased conflict and displacement is making the job even more difficult.
Former South Carolina Governor David Beasley is now the head of the program and says everyone needs to step up. He did note that some distracting world issues like Brexit and Donald Trump have left this dire news off the front page.
