According to a new international report, 2016 was the hottest year on Earth in 137 years of record keeping. It was also the third year in a row to break the record.
The State of the Climate report was released by the American Meteorological Society and hundreds of scientists from over 60 countries worked on the project. Researchers say the increase is from a strong El Nino weather pattern and long-term global warming.
One bit of possible good news from the report is that ozone levels in the upper stratosphere have been increasing two to four percent every decade since the late 1990s, so the ozone layer could be recovering.
