New research confirms for the first time that looking at photos of thin women is enough to make you think that skinny is more attractive. Ads with skinny models are so common that testing the idea has been difficult. Swiss researchers had to travel to Nicaragua's Mosquito Coast to find people who haven't been exposed to such images.
They tested 80 villagers who had no electricity, and using computer software, asked them to create their ideal body shape for a woman. The scientists then showed them images for 15 minutes from a popular Western catalog, with half the volunteers shown thin female models and the other half shown plus-size models. Then they were asked to create their ideal female body size again, and those who had seen images of thin women now created ideal body shapes that were thinner.
