A new study says sitting for long hours can kill you. Researchers at Columbia University found that sitting for extended periods of time is a significant risk factor for all causes of death. Researchers who studied nearly eight-thousand people aged 45 and older found they sat for more than 12 of the 16 hours they were awake each day.
The leader of the study says the clear conclusion is that sitting for long periods without moving raises the risk of death. The researchers recommend getting up and moving every half-hour. That’s also the magic number for the lowest death risk…
And even though the elderly sit more, there is no age discrimination when it comes to an early death. The study is in yesterday's edition of the journal "Annals of Internal Medicine."
