Swiss authorities want to know why someone is flushing tens of thousands of euros down the toilet.
It's happened at banks and restaurants in Geneva and it's led to clogged pipes. Swiss authorities say toilets near a bank vault in the city were stuffed with 500-euro bills. The bills had been chopped up. More bills were discovered clogging nearby restaurant toilets.
FYI, there it's not a crime to destroy local banknotes like it is here. However the European Union prohibits the destruction of large amounts of its currency. Curiosity has prompted local authorities to launch a criminal investigation.
The case recently took an even more bizarre turn when a man claiming to be the attorney for two Spanish women arrived at a Geneva police station offering payment for the damages. The ladies were seen on surveillance footage near the scene.
