The athletes at in Pyeongchang may be looking for gold, but apparently, a number of them are feeling a shade of green. A norovirus outbreak at the Winter Olympics is spreading to the athletes. The BBC is reporting that so far, two Swiss athletes have contracted the virus in Pyeongchang. The Swiss team says the freestyle skiers were taken away from the rest of the team after being diagnosed.
But that’s just them – more than 200 people have been affected by a norovirus outbreak at the Winter Games. The outbreak began last week among security workers at the Olympic Park, and spread to staff members, venue personnel and cafeteria workers.
The highly contagious virus causes vomiting and diarrhea – and officials say they’re doing their best to stay on top of the situation. "Very stringent measures are in place when it comes to food and beverages," says Olympic spokesman Christophe Dubi. "As soon as a case is reported then all the area gets disinfected.”
