A new poll is revealing that majorities in 44 of 50 states support same-sex marriage. The poll was conducted by the nonpartisan and nonprofit research organization PRRI.
In fact, the study finds overall support for same-sex marriage from more than 60% of Americans, while 30% remain opposed. The exceptions are Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, West Virginia, Louisiana and North Carolina.
And while most religious groups also support same-sex marriage, white evangelical Protestants and Mormons are still opposed. Thing is? Among younger Mormons – ages 18 to 29 – 52% support allowing gay and lesbian couples to wed.
