Seven newborn kittens are lucky to be alive and have the most unlikely hero to thank for saving their lives.
Whitney Braley of Georgia says her service dog, a husky named Banner, was behaving a little odd earlier this month and started tugging on her dress to follow her into the woods outside her home.
Braley knew Banner was trying to show her something so she wheeled her wheelchair into the woods and was led to a small cardboard box. She lifted one of the flaps to see what was inside, and Banner immediately reached her nose inside and pulled out a tiny, white kitten.
Braley saw six other newborn kittens inside the box and assumed they were all dead. But after taking a closer she discovered they were all alive -- but not doing well.
She carried the kittens back inside her house to take care of them. Meanwhile, Banner never left their side. She watched over them, cleaned them and slept with them to keep them safe.
Braley says Banner is "a true hero. If she didn't find the kittens, they would have all died." Braley says she will continue to care for the kittens until they are old enough to be adopted.
