Groceries That Will Save You Money

When you have a limited food budget, grocery shopping can feel intimidating. But instead of thinking about all the things you can’t buy, focus instead on getting the best bang for your buck and add these staples to your grocery list.

  • Frozen veggies - They’ll last a while in the freezer and you get more for your buck than you do with fresh. Plus, some frozen vegetables can be even healthier than fresh because they’re picked at certain times for nutrition.
  • Rotisserie chickens - You can make a lot of meals from that whole, cooked bird.
  • Pasta- It’s cheap, tasty, and versatile, and you can find it on sale all the time.
  • Beans and legumes - Black beans, lentils, and chickpeas are a good source of protein and you can snag cans for less than $1 on sale and they’re even cheaper when you buy them dry.
  • Eggs - They make an easy, cheap breakfast or dinner in a flash.
  • Fresh produce that’s in season - Learn which fruits and veggies are in season because they’re always less expensive.
  • Potatoes - They get a bad rap from carb-avoiders, but potatoes are pretty nutritious and they’re a bargain. Spuds are high in magnesium and potassium and can be used in lots of dishes.
  • Oats - Start the day with a filling breakfast on the cheap with oats. They’re healthy and delicious and you can customize them just the way you like.
