The work of one charity is making a surprising difference in the life of sick children.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation provides children who have progressive, life limiting, or life threatening medical conditions with “wish” experiences. It turns out those wishes do more than just lift kids’ spirits.
A study by the Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio has found that participation in the program may give children better quality of life and reduce hospital visits and healthcare costs.
The young patients who got a wish granted were 2.5 times more ikely to have fewer unplanned hospital admissions and 1.9 times more likely to have fewer unplanned emergency department visits compared to kids with similar conditions who didn’t receive wishes.
The charity has believed for a long time that the wishes benefit the children in many ways, but now they have proof. Source: ABC News
