Maybe it's best if our kids spend a little less time on social media these days. A new British study links social media to a higher risk of depression among teen-aged girls.
Researchers studied more than ten-thousand teens and found that girls were twice as likely as boys to show signs of depression after using social media. They blame that finding on online harassment and disturbed sleep. The study showed that 14-year-old girls were the biggest users, typically logging onto social media for more than three hours a day.
The study also found that 12 percent of light social media users and 38 percent of heavy social media users (five-plus hours a day) showed signs of having more severe depression.
