You Can Find Joy In The Small Things To Celebrate This Christmas

This Christmas will probably look very different than Christmases past, but the holiday isn’t canceled unless you decide it is. Just because you’re not getting the big family gathering you’re used to doesn’t mean Christmas won’t be special. This year, it’s time to celebrate the small things that help make the holiday meaningful, like these.

  • Light a candle and let the day begin- Start the day by lighting a festive scented candle and turning on some holiday tunes. Make your coffee extra special by adding caramel, chocolate, or whipped cream and pair it with Christmas cookies for breakfast.
  • Say hello and ho, ho, ho -You don’t have to go over the river and through the woods to Grandmother’s house this year, so you can skip the traffic and travel headaches. But you can check in with loved ones in a video chat and even open presents together virtually. Another fun way to spend time together digitally is hosting a group viewing of a holiday movie.
  • Get moving -There’s nothing wrong with staying snuggled up in your Christmas jammies all day, but if you feel cooped up, getting outside to stretch your legs will help. Some fresh air and a family stroll or bike ride will help the kiddos burn off some Christmas energy, too.
  • Reinvent Christmas dinner -We recentlytold youthis is the perfect year to switch things up with your holiday feast. You could have a snackapooloza, order take-out from a local restaurant, or whip up something simple but satisfying, like pasta.
  • If all else fails …If your low-key Christmas still has you feeling bummed or your family is guilt-tripping you for staying home, remember it’s really just one day on the calendar. Cheer yourself up by making future plans with loved ones to give you something to look forward to in 2021.
