King Richard is on HBO MAX and in theaters this weekend and it's not just a movie...
No, It's a film. It's a masterpiece in storytelling, the ensemble cast - featuring the incredible Will Smith - is the stuff which award-show dreams are made of. But what's even more iconic about this film is what it represents to a world which has been collectively beaten down by a global pandemic over the last two years: It's a uniquely American story about a family who came together to change the world.
If you haven't seen the previews, the film tells the story of the father of tennis superstars Venus and Serena Williams... and the passion, plan, commitment and drive it took to give them every opportunity to rise to their global icon status in sport. King Richard has a plan, he penned it before they were born, and he moved heaven and earth - sometimes in controversial ways - to make it happen for his daughters. Will Smith ascends to the iconic status in the way he portrays Richard... and the rest of the cast... are just brilliant.
If you can see it in theaters, go. If you can't, gather the family around HBO MAX and let this story move you. It's that good. So good, in fact, I'd bet people will study this film - and the story of this family - for years to come.
Every so often, a film comes along which changes things... King Richard is that film.
